When Women’s Businesses Grow, Communities Grow With Them.

Introducing the FAN Business Directory, a new way to discover, support and champion women-owned businesses.

A woman opens a bakery and gives a newcomer her first job. A consultant helps a small organization build the systems it needs to grow. A wellness practitioner creates a space where clients finally feel understood. A founder turns a skill she developed at her kitchen table into a business that supports her family.

Every business has its own story, and every story deserves the chance to reach beyond the people who already know it.

At Femme Alliance Network, we have seen what happens when women share their knowledge, champion one another’s work and make thoughtful introductions. An invitation into the right room can become a client relationship. A recommendation can help a founder enter a new market. A purchase can help her hire, invest in her business or build greater financial security at home.

That is the thinking behind the FAN Business Directory, now live at femmealliancenetwork.com/business-directory.

The directory brings women-owned businesses into one place where customers, collaborators and community members can discover what they do. You can browse by category, learn about a business and visit its website. For founders, a listing offers another way to be found and another reason for someone in the FAN community to say, “I know exactly who you should speak to.”

The value of a name shared with confidence

We call it community currency: the value that moves through a trusted community when people share information, make introductions, recommend expertise and choose where to spend their money.

It can look wonderfully ordinary. A friend asks who designed your website. A colleague needs an event planner. A neighbour is looking for a therapist, an accountant or a thoughtful gift. Having a name to offer is useful. Knowing the person’s work well enough to recommend her is powerful.

Research gives this idea weight. In an evaluation discussed by the Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub, 87.6% of participants in Women Entrepreneurship Strategy programs said they made new connections for themselves or their businesses. Those connections included support networks, advisers and new or potential customers. The figure describes participants in those programs, but it speaks to a broader truth we recognize at FAN: business support is also about access to people.

A directory cannot make every introduction happen on its own. Our community can give it life by using it: discovering a founder, buying from her, sharing her work and remembering her when an opportunity comes up.

A bigger place for women to be seen

Women are already shaping Canada’s economy. Statistics Canada reported that 20.9% of private-sector businesses were majority-owned by women in the third quarter of 2025. That number represents an enormous range of ideas, industries and ambitions.

At FAN, we want women building those businesses to have more paths to visibility and connection. That includes the founder established in her field, the entrepreneur building alongside a full-time job and the newcomer translating years of experience into a business in Canada. Each brings something valuable to the market. Each deserves the chance to be considered when a customer, partner or organization is ready to choose.

“Every business in this directory represents someone who took a chance on her idea. I hope you’ll explore their work, share a name and help open a door.”

— Nomso Nnadi, Founder, Femme Alliance Network

Economic empowerment becomes tangible in moments like these. It is a founder earning enough to make a decision on her own terms. It is a business creating work for someone else. It is expertise being recognized and paid for. It is more money circulating through families and communities, and more women able to imagine a future shaped by their own choices.

The FAN Business Directory is one practical contribution to that future. It gives our community a place to find women’s businesses and a reason to turn its support into action.

Make the introduction.

We are excited to see the directory grow into a resource people return to whenever they want to buy well, find expertise or pass along an opportunity. Its greatest value will come from the people who use it generously and intentionally.

Explore the businesses already listed. If you own a business in Canada, select “List Your Business” on the page to register. And if you know a woman whose business belongs here, send her the link with a personal note: “I thought of you.”

That small act is community currency in motion. We cannot wait to see what it makes possible.
